First dinner at Trattoria Sbandati was all we could hope for. We had lunch here in the past when they were serving, and liked the restaurant then. But for dinner... Started the evening with a pleasant glass of Prosecco and a wonderful Insalata al Salame, a mixture of heirloom potatoes, salame and parmiggiano with a beautiful presentation of hearts of Romaine in the center with EVOO drizzled on the plate. This was so much better that the way the menu read. Score! For our Primi courses we decided on Minestra del Giorno (soup of the day), a Cannelini bean soup drizzled with EVOO and topped with a light garnish of Rosemary. The second Primi dish was the special, Gnocchi and Porcini Mushrooms with Truffle Oil and Sage. Both were great. We brought a bottle of 2001 Vietti Barolo Brunate to have with our Primi and Secondi courses and our server accomodated us with wonderful wine service. Stemware was adequate to very good. For our Secondi selections we decided on the Tagliato di Manzo (Flame grilled Rib-Eye steak topped with arugala and parmiggiano)and the Secondi special, Eggplant parmiggiano. I am not a fan of arugala, but this turned out to be very good as a topping for the rib-eye. As for the Eggplant parmiggiano, it was served in a small ramekin and we were skeptical... until we tasted it. Hands down the best Eggplant parmiggiano that we have ever had. Every part of our dining experience exceeded our expectations and the bill... less than $100 (corkage included) for some of the best food we have tasted in Central Oregon for a long time. Run, don't walk to Trattoria Sbandati!
